The open mic is at the heart of Dandelions Poetry evenings. We aim to offer a supportive, welcoming experience for writers who might be more nervous about sharing their work, who might be speaking at an open mic for the first time, or who have only just started to write. We also welcome established writers and published poets. Everyone is responded to and valued. We aim to lower the barrier to taking part.
All the Dandelions Poetry evenings so far have had a wide range of poems, touching on almost any theme that comes to mind, We have comic poems, poems about grief and trauma, rhyming poems, free verse, rap, and every form of poetry. We have heard poems about being a used car salesman, about mental illness, about first dates, about ballet, about religion, about slugs, and about the sea.
Each month we will ask one or two open mic poets to share a poem here on the website, so we can share some of the wonderful words with a wider audience. Please scroll down!
