About Dandelions Poetry

We established Dandelions because we came to writing late in our lives, and often lived with imposter syndrome, struggling to feel that we belonged in writing communities. 

We were so pleased to find one or two events which created a feeling of warmth and inclusivity, where each writer, at whatever stage, was valued. When these events closed during the pandemic we decided to create our own community. 

• Diverse and inclusive, we welcome anyone who loves poetry; whether you are an established poet, or new to the world of poetry. 

• Our open mic poets are as important to our events as our featured readers.

• We welcome speakers of other language, or people from different cultures. Please come along and read us a poem in your language!

•  You might be looking for a likeminded creative community. Whatever race, sexual orientation, religion, ability or age, you're welcome to join us. 

• We particularly welcome neurodivergent performers and attenders. We want to keep learning about how to be inclusive.

• We welcome anyone struggling with their mental health or loneliness.  

• Our events are in informal local venues so they feel  less daunting. 

• People who are curious about poetry, or who love poetry, are just as welcome and  important as people who are sharing their work. 

• We are a place where people can discuss and develop their writing, or begin to write for the first time.
